Froot Loops

Never have I ever had to spit out any piece of food, until I met fruit loops. I first came across these "multicoloured cheerios" (or should I write multicolored now I'm in America?!) in the hotel on my first morning in California and they certainly did not appeal to me.

I have now moved into The Lexington, Davis and am overwhelmed by the warmth and friendliness of these apartments and the people involved in my new life here. One evening during my first week at The Lex, my two new roomies and I enjoyed a midnight munch after a dip in the hot tub... oh it's a hard life out here!

Fruit Loops were amongst our collection of goodies. I had to try them as I am very passionate about trying everything when it comes to food. The result was not pleasant. I was pretty disgusted by these almost-luminous rings of E numbers and couldn't physically swallow them. I have never tasted anything more artificial in my life. Yuck!

My first breakfast in California

Davis, California. Somehow even more beautiful than I had imagined it to be. I have been here for just over 36 hours now and have yet to see a cloud.

In the hotel, amoungst the multicoloured cheerios and sugar-drenched donuts, I decided to make myself a cream cheese bagel dusted with cinnamon and drizzled with honey. I believe this is a rather American bagel combo?! I gobbled this down whilst the warmth of the glorious Californian sunshine painted my face. Bliss. Bring it on Davis!

Speculoos Millionaire's shortbread

Here is another recipe using the divine spreadable biscuit. Please excuse my language, but holy crap these things taste amazing! The recipe here is very simple - shortbread base, a can of dulce de leche mixed with a jar of Speculoos spread and then a layer of your choice of chocolate.

I made half with milk chocolate and the other half with dark chocolate. In my opinion, the dark is by far the best. I have given out samples of these delicous chunks and had great feedback. If you have a jar of Speculoos lying around, I could not recommend a better way to use it! The dulce de leche marries so well with it. The Speculoos taste gives the treat a massive boost.

Yummmm!!!
